Bunnings BBQ 3 Sep
STOP PRESS
We have been allocated a Bunnings Sausage Sizzle fundraiser for Saturday, 3rd September
 
We will run 4 shifts as normal
 
set up will be from 0800 until about 0845. We will try and get the BBQ started asap, as store is open from 0700.
  • morning, 0830 - 1130
  • mid, 1130 - 1330
  • afternoon, 1330 - 1700
  • debrief, 1700 - whenever (Studio 99 or maybe another place)

  • Science Experience planning underway.  
  • RYDA (Brian Thomas) – held on 29th August.  230 students attending, volunteers needed.

Vocational & Environment (Alison)
  • Monarto Safari Park tree planting scheduled for 10th September.  Monarto needs to know numbers coming, time of arrival and any special needs.  The Park has offered members a 50% discount off the entrance fee if they wish to enter the next day as visitors.
Other Business
  • The passing of distinguished Rotarian Errol Chinner.
  • Thanked attendees to the Combined Meeting. 
  • Bunnings has donated an additional carton of Lego, which will be used to raise funds.
Guest Speakers: PDG David Egan and Lisa Dallow.
The talk was about District Regionalisation Pilot.  Rotary has been in decline over the past 30 years. Over that period, membership in then District 9500 declined from around 2000 to some 900.  The focus is to reverse the decline and how to achieve this.  Two videos were shown.

Stuffed Prawns

Gourmet Gary’s Prawns Stuffed with Bacon and Spinach
 
Serves: 4
Prep Time: 45 min.
Cook Time: 15 min.

Extra large green prawns
2/3
Bunch spinach white stalks removed
2
Rashes bacon
1
Egg
1/3 cup
Fresh bread crumbs
 
Salt and pepper to taste
1 cup
Plain flour
½ cup
Cornflour
1
Stubbie of beer
 
Vegetable oil for deep frying
 

Directions:

1. Peel prawn tails leaving tip in place and devein cutting 3/4 way into prawn to give plenty of room for stuffing. 
2. Steam bacon for about 10 minutes then roughly chop and set aside
3. Blanch spinach for 1 minute in boiling water then remove and refresh in cold water. 
4. Place spinach, bacon, egg, breadcrumbs, salt and pepper in a processor and mix into a slightly coarse well mixed stuffing. 
5. Lay prawns cut side up and press stuffing in firmly with your fingers then set aside in fridge to set a little. 
6. Mix the two flours together in a bowl then add beer, whisking to form a batter. 
7. Heat oil in a wok and when hot dip prawns carefully in batter with stuffed side up and then deep fry about 6 at a time. 
 8. Serve with chips, salad and some lemon wedges.
