Hosted by RC Campbelltown, we heard from Mike Greenslade (MD) about the disasters that ShelterBox have supported over the past 25 yrs. We’re very lucky to have Past RI Director Brad Howard as our special guest. He will be talking about the ‘Unintended consequences of polio eradication’.
This webinar is open to all and is also a terrific introduction for new members and clubs to learn more about the boldest public health initiative of our time, started by Rotary.
Brad is a charter member of the Rotary Club of Oakland Uptown and past District Governor of the district serving California’s Silicon Valley.
He was a Rotary International Director from 2015-2017 and served 10 years as Zone End Polio Now Coordinator.
He has led 34 groups of Rotarians, comprised of more than 1,700 people, to participate in Polio National Immunization Days in West Africa and India.
He is a recipient of the Rotary’s Service Above Self Award, the Rotary Foundation’s Distinguished Service Award, and the International Service Award for a Polio Free World awarded to no more than 10 individuals annually.
Registrations have been live for a week and we’ve already attracted great interest in our inaugural zone webinar series - Inside the fight: Stories from the frontlines of polio eradication - Saturday 4 October.

What a season it’s been for AFL!
Sorry to hear the “bad guys” couldn’t quite make it over the line for finals - those moral victories can be bittersweet when you’re so close.
As for the Crows finishing on top, you’re right that there’s often talk about the “curse of the minor premiership,” but they’ve looked strong this year. Finals footy is always unpredictable though, as you taught me, anything can happen once September arrives!
I should add that I’m still on vacation and in a few days I’m leaving for Amsterdam with some friends, I’m so excited.
Recycling in Australia in 2025 is a dynamic and evolving space.
While challenges remain, the commitment to increasing recycling rates and transitioning towards a more circular economy is evident.
By understanding the systems in place and playing our part, we can all contribute to a more sustainable future.
As individuals, our role in making the 2025 recycling system work is crucial. Here are some key actions you can take:
Know Your Local Rules: Familiarize yourself with what can and cannot be recycled in your council area. Check your council’s website for the latest guidelines.
Rinse and Clean: Ensure your recyclable items are clean and free of food residue. This helps prevent contamination. For example, rinse out milk cartons and takeaway containers before placing them in the recycling bin.
Keep Soft Plastics Separate: Unless your council specifically collects them, keep soft plastics out of your kerbside recycling bin. Utilize designated drop-off points if available.
Reduce and Reuse: The most effective way to reduce waste is to consume less and reuse items whenever possible. Bring your own bags to the supermarket, use reusable water bottles and coffee cups, and choose products with minimal packaging.
Educate Others: Talk to your family and friends about the importance of proper recycling.

did you know that "bath toys" or more commonly known as little fish soy sauce containers, are banned in SA from 1 September. Another way SA is showing the way in reducing single use plastics!
The speaker system operates on both battery or power.
Prior to meeting, plug in the charger with the connection point being in front of the speaker box. Once fully charged (blue light), the charger can be removed (or left in place).
NOTE: Ensure that Power is plugged in to the actual Power inlet on the speaker and not the Microphone inlet
Three microphones are all battery operated. There are ‘some’ spare batteries in our lectern. Microphones operate on a simple On/Off and are already paired to the system.
The speaker box has a Master Volume knob as well as a Microphone Volume knob. These should not need adjustment unless circumstances have changed. Test inside meeting room.
At end of meeting please carefully check all items, and put safely back in lectern.
Liaise with the Guest Speaker Coordinator to meet and greet Guest Speaker, arrange for introduction, introduce to other members
