She outlined a number of projects/activities which may interest RCWL (see below).
When asked about the key issues facing the City of Charles Sturt, her response was:
- in-fill housing, the need for green spaces and the impact of increased population density on parking and traffic in general
- addressing biodiversity, the need for trees to reduce heat signatures in the suburbs
- costs
Community Garden Groups – need for wicking beds, bee hotels, gabion seating
Art/Stobie pole painting groups – need for paint, mosaic and art supplies
N.B. Council and SAPN approval for the paining of stobie poles is required.
Other small community groups – need for signage, notice boards, lighting, stages, stands, trolleys, tables and chairs
For residents on the receiving end of voluntary assistance, it is often a lifeline and provides the much-needed connection to support and care. This lifeline and connection lessen the sense of isolation, and provides practical advice, support, and help.
the City of Charles Sturt are always looking for volunteers with opportunities /roles including:
- bus driving and transport assistance
- helping at special events, open days and displays
- assisting at libraries and community centre activities, programs and administration
- youth services programs
- graffiti removal
- animal management
