The Rotary Club of West Lakes has recently given a donation to the Community Help And TogethernesS team (CHATS) at Port Adelaide to buy a large upright freezer.
CHATS needed to replace a small, outdated chest freezer with an upright freezer to better cater for their growing demand. The larger upright freezer will now enable more food and a larger variety of food to be stored. The clients who access this food are those who are in real need of additional help, these are the homeless and those who are suffering food insecurity for themselves and their families. Food from this freezer will also be included in food hampers for those who seek emergency help. It is expected that the larger freezer will not only meet immediate needs, but will enable expanded demand as the number of clients increases.
The Rotary Club of West Lakes contribution to this donation was doubled through the award of a Rotary Foundation District Grant.
The Rotary Foundation is Rotary International’s own Charity, which collects donations worldwide, then distributes funds to support individual club projects.
Some of the 270L of milk from the LIV Golf event was able to be stored in the new freezer!
Andrew, Ros and Ken (Foundation Director) visited CHATS last Thursday to see the new acquisition.
Rose Darling was very grateful, which made the whole process satisfying for we Club members.
