Barry has been a member of the RC West Lakes for almost 29 years since joined in 1996 when he and his wife Pam moved back to Adelaide. He had previously been a member of other service clubs, while he lived in Sydney, Brisbane and Perth. Consequently, he enthusiastically participated in Rotary projects to assist people in need of help, both locally and around the world. Those activities included a wide range of tasks from working-bees to local BBQ sizzles through to major fund raising for major overseas developments. He also helps out with the Cafe Car at the National Railway Museum as well as raising money for Rotary's End Polio project.
Barry is always ready to assist with difficult tasks and totally reliable when he makes a promise to be there to help, not even letting a serious fall recently stop him from helping out at the Bunnings BBQ. He takes a serious interest in the welfare of other people, whether they are his close friends or those in need living in the community. He consistently takes the time to contact friends and fellow club members when they are sick and will visit if they are indisposed in hospital.
As a former President (among his many other positions held) of the Rotary Club of West Lakes, Barry's knowledge and willingness to provide support and advice is directly responsible for the success of many projects, the latest being a current project sending a container of medical and training supplies to be utilised in the Philippines.
He is genuinely liked by all of his acquaintances because of his friendly and welcoming manner, and for almost three decades has proven a reliable and indefatigable member of the Rotary Club of West Lakes. His resilience, knowledge, and can-do attitude would make him a worthy recipient of the Local Legend award.
