Rotary Australia Repurposing Equipment (RARE, formerly Donations In Kind) at Edinburgh serves as a collection place for equipment etc to be sent to places in need.
RCWL has typically gone out a couple of times each year to assist the team out there in their endeavours to sort, clean, prepare, unpack, pack, maintain stuff.
Over the past few years we have done a number of tasks. This has been graciously received by Dave Cockshell OAM, the leader of the team - no matter how many turn up.
On Saturday 15 June Alison, Ros and Andrew ventured out on a cool, cloudy morning. Unfortunately Yvonne called in sick and couldn't attend.
There was a hive of activity, doing a multitude of tasks. It wasn't until morning tea that we could count - about a dozen in all.
Ros and Alison were set to work, pulling books apart for recycling. Unfortunately books don't appear high on the list of needs these days. Coupled with the cost of transporting (weight), there are better ways to utilise the hard-earnt funds. These were used books - there might be an opportunity to send them to a more appropriate waste stream use.
RARE also has a quantity of new books, some of these are destined for overseas use as requested by the donors.

Andrew worked with Dave to progress rain-proofing of one of the sea containers. Dave cooks up weird ways to use scraps of material, this time it was flattening span deck and installing under some donated caravan canopies. He had made a number of brackets which, when installed could be used to bolt down the canopies!
Morning tea was the typical fare of scones with jam & cream, and a cuppa outside trying to soak up the frail sun of the morning.
We took the chance to wish Alison a happy birthday.

We knocked off just after noon, another 10 volunteer hours racked up!
Being a small group, and with other things to do, we didn't go to the Slug'n'Lettuce for a post work lunch - maybe next time.

I know there are a couple of members who would be interested in a July spot, if we can get some interest I'm sure that Dave will be keen!
