The meeting tomorrow night (Tuesday 14th May 2024), is a Committee planning meeting.
 
The purpose of the meeting is to  think of new projects and fresh ideas in your respective Committees and put aside (for the purpose of this exercise) projects and activities that RCWL is currently involved in.
 
 
 
Consider:
  • a project or activity
  • Is it a project or fund raising activity
  • the number of people that would be involved
  • Can this be a collaborative project/activity with another Club or charity
  • what would be required 
  • what funds are required
  • when is it proposed that this event would take place
  • Is this something that could be ongoing
  • other considerations

SSLSC Awards night
On Saturday 11th May, Rosie attended the Semaphore SLSC awards night to present the Max Christy and Brian Page Awards.
 
These Awards are made to members of SSLSC who provide exceptional service, over and above normal duties during the course of the year.
The Club was pleased to be able present a cheque in the amount of $2,000.
 
The donation was also in appreciation of the support the Semaphore SLSC provides to RC West Lakes, and to further the ongoing relationship between the two Clubs.

RI Youth Exchange student Abby - 12 May
Hi Ros,
 
So sorry for the late responses I’ve been very busy over here recently. It’s exciting to hear about Samuele's exchange, I think he will really enjoy staying with you and my parents.
I hope all goes well with your Anglicare Brass @ St Bedes project, it sounds awesome and for a good cause too. You’ll have to let me know how it goes! 
 
Thank you all so much for the postcard, I love hearing from you all and what is going on at the club.
The fringe festival this year must have been a hit as it is every year.
 
I hope all your projects go well, as I’m sure they will! I’m very jealous of the Bunnings bbq’s, I’ve been missing them!

Club Assembly Wrap-up
Thanks to all who participated in the Club Assembly.
 
Thanks to President Elect Scott for chairing the meeting - apologies to those who thought the time limit was too short, but we needed to keep discussions on track.
 
 
Projects
  • Shade cover for MidCourse Reserve (Barry)

  • Supporting Women and Children in Domestic Violence situations (Rosie)

Holiday Hay style
Dear RCWL members, of our 2 months in Europe we only have 17 days left. 
 
Initially starting in England, we then went to spend 25 days with daughter Jenna in Amsterdam (NL).
 
 
 
Found the 51 stairs up & down to her apartment rather onerous. My knees ache.
 
There were days when we were drowned rats.
 
The best method of Transport was using TukTuks which would pick us up from Jenna’s front door. They would take 5min to get to a destination whereas an Uber would take 20min due to one way streets.
 
Needed to buy a pair of gloves as has been quite cold in the wind.
 
Visited Tulip Garden, 7 million bulbs.
 
Attention Westy - Amsterdam how to collect Hardware to build shelves for daughter.
  
 
 
We are currently in the Cotswolds, England near Cheltenham, with my cousin who comes to Australia.
 
Today Steve rode my cousin’s bike (4 gears) up the hill to a church – he has lots of photos. 
 
It was an adventure.
 
Stratford-on-Avon bridge built in 1400’s has 14 arches. Still in use today
 
There are lots of photos & adventures.
I could stay another 2 months.
However, finances would not allow it.

Club email addresses
Robin has set up trial new official Rotary District “Office Holder” email addresses. 

The purpose includes a more consistent professional appearance when writing to external parties (asking for Council grants etc). Far better to correspond from an actual Rotary domain address than from a Yahoo or Gmail account. 

Additionally, Clubs/Directors retain historical emails with a simple password handover at each year changeover. 

Hopefully this will be rolled out to all District Clubs should they see the benefits of the concept. 

The intention is that all Club documents will be stored in a Dropbox or similar so that photos etc are not lost as members move on.
 
 
Any ideas on this are appreciated - please provide feedback to Robin.
